Turn Left at Lenin

So, the Snarkatronic economy is once more on an even keel, at least for a while -- employment has been found! The one potential issue I had accepting the position is the workplace is in an area of Seattle even *Seattlites* consider liberal, so I would have to be in deep cover. The title refers to the route I take to go home. There is a real live statue of Lenin here.

However!

As I wandered the floor trying to find the supply cabinet my first day, I caught a glimpse of a co-worker's computer screen.

And I saw the familiar header of Instapundit.

I am not alone!

When does Rod Serling show up?

I swear the planet I grew up on was different than this one. How else to explain the Mad Hatter logic of Nancy Pelosi giggling "No money changed hands!" as she presided over the most corrupt, bribery-ridden legislative process since Teapot Dome. I next expect to see her widen her already bulging eyes at a press conference and say "but it was the very BEST butter!" to refute charges that nobody, not even the Congressional Janitor, has read the entire Healthcare Bill. They've discovered a few missing things already (oops, pre-existing conditions for children not covered), and some interesting bits that boggle my mind (what, precisely, is this reserve corps mentioned in section 430?). If they keep looking they will probably find Jimmy Hoffa stuffed in the Ark of the Covenant.

Other items that should be hashish fumes, but are unfortunately reality ...

-Obama dares Republicans to repeal Obamacare. How cute. Like we need his permission.
-As a general rule, if Castro is saying you did something right, you screwed up big time.
-Democrats would rather vote for Viagra for sex offenders than stop the passage of the healthcare debacle.
-Caterpillar and John Deere lose total of $250 million for coverage of prescriptions for retirees due to tax changes in Obamacare bill, throwing the retirees back on ... Medicare part D. Total tax savings to the country, NONE. It will cost more money. Gee, thanks Congress! Plus all those jobs those companies won't hire for, etc. making the economy even more zombie-like.

It's not a secret

From the blog PostSecret, where postcards of people's secrets are scanned and posted every week, the following caught my eye...

Firstly, dear postcard-sender, I would bet large amounts of money this is a secret only to you. They know. Why they put up with you, now THAT is a secret. Secondly, consider for a moment just how many people all over the Internets have just seen you boast of your feelings of superiority over a political affiliation you cannot spell correctly. (And technically, if you are referring to the party the name should be capitalized, but that may have to wait for you to master the basics.)

You may now commence writhing in spasms of embarrassment, "superior" being ...

Okay, let's review

  1. We are over a week into the month of March. Not December.
  2. Actual flakes of snow landed on me yesterday, in downtown Seattle, and they weren't from a snowmaking machine from the Vancouver Olympics seeking asylum.
  3. It was 27 degrees Fahrenheit this morning.
So, when's the Global Warming supposed to show up again? Me and my heating bill would very much like to see it.

36,000 plus one

Jobs lost this month. The extra one is mine. Yes, Harry Reid, I'm now unemployed so NO, I don't think the economy is improving. Far otherwise. Why don't *you* lose your job, you withered miserable cadaver? Since I don't have anything else to occupy my time, I guess I'll just go down the list of Congresscritters and call to tell them how very unhappy I am with their utter failure to understand the basic principles of economics, viz. you can't spend money you don't have and will never have in the future because there ISN'T THAT MUCH MONEY IN THE UNIVERSE. Businesses aren't hiring because a) nobody knows how much the "cost savings" of the healthcare debacle are going to savage the bottom line and b) this administration doesn't seem to like businesses making profits and c) businesses hire so they can make profits, ergo d) I'm screwed.

Gah. Time to fire up the Shakespearian Insult Generator ....

Coffee Party?

This is cute. Not only is this suspiciously astroturf-like, you can see the seams. For one thing, the people behind this STILL don't understand what "Tea Party" refers to. If they did, they would know their opposition "grassroots" organization of spontaneous upwelling of support for Dear Leader would have to be called "Loyalists". You know, the people who disapproved of the Tea Party folks. Loyalists *like* being told what to do by a king. Loyalists don't want any of that icky freedom. Loyalists love paying taxes.

And Loyalist newspapers print the Party line and report breathlessly when 30 people show up for a Coffee Party, but when thousands attend a Tea Party they can't see it with a telescope. Nope, no bias here!
